The Composer Is Dead, by Lemony Snicket

There’s dreadful news from the symphony hall — the composer is dead!
If you have ever heard an orchestra play, then you know that musicians are most certainly guilty of something. Where exactly were the violins on the night in question? Did anyone see the harp? Is the trumpet protesting a bit too boisterously?

In this perplexing murder mystery, everyone seems to have a motive, everyone has an alibi, and nearly everyone is a musical instrument. But the composer is still dead.

Perhaps you can solve the crime yourself. Join the Inspector as he interrogates all the unusual suspects. Then listen to the accompanying audio recording featuring Lemony Snicket and the music of Nathaniel Stookey performed by the San Francisco Symphony. Hear for yourself exactly what took place on that fateful, well-orchestrated evening.

To Wake the Dead – Richard Laymon
An ancient beauty . . .
Amara was once the Princess of Egypt, the beautiful wife of Mentuhotep the First. Now, 4000 years later, she and her coffin are merely prized exhibits of the Charles Ward museum. Her lovely face and strong, young body are no more. If you were to look at her today you would see only a brittle bundle of bones and dried skin. But looks can be very deceiving. . . .
A missing mummy . . .
Barney, the museum’s night watchman, is the first to make the shocking discovery that the mummy’s coffin has been broken open. He immediately assumes it’s the work of grave-robbers who care nothing about the sanctity of the dead. But Barney doesn’t have a chance to do anything about it. Then two security guards come upon the open coffin and they too believe that the mummy has been stolen. What else could sane men think? By the time they realize the unbelievable truth, it’s far too late for them to do anything . . . ever again.
The walking dead!
Now Amara is once again freed from the cramped confines of her coffin, free to walk the earth, free to stalk her prey. Free to kill. Nothing can satisfy her deadly bloodlust. And no one can stop her. You cannot kill what is already dead. –This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Crime and Punishment – Feodor Dostoyevsky

Crime and Punishment – Feodor Dostoyevsky
This is the novel that ensured Fyodor Dostoevsky¿s place as a giant of Russian literature. First published in 1866, this legendary work continues to enthrall readers around the world and earn Dostoevsky legions of fans with every printing. Timeless, and breathtaking in scope, Crime and Punishment the story of a young Russian intellectual’s decision to murder a cruel pawnbroker and his subsequent intellectual and spiritual crisis is one of the most famous novels in all of literature. This absorbing book attacks the overly logical nihilistic ideals of reason and science and proves that only through love, self-denial and suffering comes salvation. George Guidall’s fluent interpretation of the Russian names enhances this deep, multi-leveled text, and liberates Dostoevsky’s eternal prose with dimensions of color and feeling lost to the printed page alone.

Atlas Shrugged – Ayn Rand

Atlas Shrugged – Ayn Rand
Atlas Shrugged is a novel by Ayn Rand, first published in 1957 in the United States. It was Rand’s fourth, longest, and last novel. Afterward, she completed only non-fiction works, concentrating on philosophy, politics, and cultural criticism.
At over 1000 pages in length, Atlas Shrugged, she believed, was her magnum opus.[1] The book explores a number of philosophical themes that Rand would subsequently develop into the philosophy of Objectivism. It centers on the decline of Western civilization, and Rand described it as demonstrating the theme of “the role of man’s mind in existence.” In doing so it expresses many facets of Rand’s philosophy, such as the advocacy of reason, individualism, and the market economy.
As indicated by its original working title The Strike, the plot device is a general strike by leading industrialists and businessmen, led by the protagonist John Galt.
