Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (often shortened to Huck Finn) is a novel written by Mark Twain and published in 1884. It is commonly regarded one of the Great American Novels, and is one of the first major American novels written in the vernacular, characterized by local color regionalism. It is told in the first person by Huckleberry “Huck” Finn, best friend of Tom Sawyer and narrator of two other Twain novels.
Dark Origins Of Britain
The Dark Origins of Britain is a landmark series dealing with the greatest unresolved mystery in our history – how the modern nations of England, Wales and Scotland were born out of the chaos of the Dark Ages. In 400 AD, when Roman power collapsed in Britain, we were a province inhabited by Celtic peoples speaking a mixture of early Welsh and Latin. But only two hundred years later, the foundations of a new, Anglo-Saxon, English-speaking nation were being laid.
Martin Fido – True Crime Collection
Martin Austin Fido (born October 18, 1939, Penzance, Cornwall, United Kingdom) is a university teacher, true crime writer and broadcaster. His many books include The Crimes, Detection and Death of Jack the Ripper, The Official Encyclopedia of Scotland Yard, and The Murder Guide to London.
2010: A Space Odyssey – Arthur Clarke
Sir Arthur ignored the discrepancies presented in the 2001 novelization when he wrote 2010: Odyssey Two. 2010 is actually a sequel to the movie version, and Clarke used then-current knowledge of the solar system (along with some very savvy predictions) to tell the tale of a joint Soviet/American expedition to solve the mystery of the Discovery disaster. They race back to Jupiter to salvage the Discovery before it falls from an unstable orbit. The Peter Hyams movie greatly streamlines the book (completely removing the role Chinese astronauts play, and putting much greater emphasis on the Cold War tensions). The Monolith plays an important role again, changing our solar system forever to foster the development of life discovered on the frozen Jovian moon of Europa. Easily the strongest volume of the entire series.
